This blog post will explore Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) that will be applied to improving the search ability of this website. Overall, one of the key concepts to keep in mind is maintaining consistency. This includes creating a formula that will maintain a consistent theme when creating content on the web, including titles, text, domains, videos and pictures (Search Engine Watch 2013). The concept behind this is to ensure that keywords and tagging is used to push content towards the front of web searches. Understanding keywords requires gaining insights into our own website, questioning and testing through a repetitive process (Moz 2016). Google provides a tool called keyword planner that is part of having an AdWords account product, this is helpful in gaining insights into keywords functionality.
Using title tags will assist to the inform a search engine and visitors, what they might expect on a web site, “keywords in your title tag show up highlighted in search engine results” (Search Engine Watch 2016), here is an example:

Ensuring that tags are consistent and contain words and text that is posted to the website regularly helps to improve the Website searchability and optimising search results.
Ensuring videos and photos make full use of the tagging functionality that is available is a fundamental part of this process. As a general rule, when it comes to uploading photos or videos it can be generally overlooked to ensure the correct tagging is applied to content. This is critical in ensuring content is searchable and push to the front of search queries. Describing images with alt text (Alternative text) “as accurately as possible” (Search Engine Watch 2016). Other tips for using Alt Text or Alt Tag include:
- Accuracy and equivalency
- Being succinct
- Repeating information
- Not using the phrases “image of …” or “graphic of …” to describe the image (Webaim 2015)
From a personal perspective this process can be applied to all of the images that have been uploaded to this webpage. All of the images that have been added to this blog have not utilised this feature. The following image displays photo that has been added to this website with a blank Alt text description. Using crafted and strategic text will assist to improve SEO.
